Apple recently took away the new apps link in the iTunes App Store, which I how I generally browsed for new and exciting apps to buy. I was unhappy.
A friend of mine referred me to AppShopper.com. And I am blown. a. way.
This is what browsing newly added apps should be all about. Very simple clean interface. It’s easy to sort by paid or free apps (or even which apps have had price changes!), by catagory, by all or new apps. It doesn’t have everything; it would be great if it included a simple search by keyword function (if you’re looking for a specific app you’re better off going straight to iTunes), but it has enough to replace what was lost in the App Store and then some.
Find an app you like? Click on the link and it will take you directly to the App Store to purchase or download it. Want to see all of the apps that have dropped their price to “Free?” Easy! click on the “Free” and “Price Change” button, and AppShooper.com will sort through the apps and display all the recently free apps. All of these searches can be easily changed into an RSS feed to which you can subscribe and get daily updates of exactly what you’re looking for in the app store.
The only other small gripe I have is accessing it on the iPhone. It’s not set to a fixed width (though it looks like it should be). So it slides around some when scrolling around on Mobile Safari. Other than that small thing, which would be a trifle to fix, it’s awesome to use on the iPhone as well.
AppShopper.com is well worth your time (and pocketbook) to check out. Kudos to Normalkid, LLC for this service.
