About 24 hours after the iPhone 2.1 software update was released, and Apple had blocked jailbreaking phones via modified .ispw files in iTunes 8, the Dev Team struck again and released a tool for Jailbreaking the 2.1 firmware.
It was initially thought that the Jailbrake would require patchng iTunes, but this version of QuickPwn and the PwnageTool works without modifying anything in iTunes 8. I plan to Jailbreak my non-critical V1 iPhone today to see how it goes, and may even get brave enough to pwn my 3G.

For now there are only tools for the Mac. Windows tools should be coming soon.
Jailbreak, pwnage, quickpwn, Update
I came across a Jailbroken app today that pretty closely rounds out my missing “requirements” of the iPhone.

It’s called Intelliscreen and it gives you alerts on the lock screen, for starters.

Jailbreak
The Dev team released a quick update to their 2.0 software, 2.0.1. This solved my installation problems and I was able to get my V1 phone jailbroken and unlocked. I’ve yet to test it on T-Mobile, but I’m anxious to. I’ll report back when I get ahold of a SIM to stick in there. T-Mobile is supposed to have much more reliable signals in my lack-of-a-neighborhood.
Jailbreak, Unlocked, V1
So the iPhone Dev Team (the guys who pwn your phwn) have come out with a Jailbreak tool for the 2.0 software. I downloaded this and attempted to j/b my V1, 2.0 phone and it just wouldn’t take for some reason. I don’t know why… I’m not an experts in such things. But all I ended up with was a phone that needed a restore to the real 2.0 software.
If you’d like to try it yourself, here’s iPod Touched’s info (where I got the tool)

I don’t recommend it, frankly. Wait a week to see how things shake out.
But if you do try it, Good luck! Let me know how things go for you.
